Missing teeth can cause embarrassment in social situations, and removable appliances such as partials and dentures can be uncomfortable. At Dr. Donia's, implant dentistry can be utilized to re-create the smile you once had. Dental implants offer the ultimate in tooth replacement options because they are permanently anchored to your jawbone, producing a natural look with proper function. Used to replace one or more missing teeth, implants can offer another alternative to bridges or partials, and they look, feel, and function like your natural teeth.

Benefits of implants

Dental implants offer many benefits compared to removable teeth replacements. Because they are anchored into the jawbone (osseo-integrated), there is no need to worry about compromising adjacent or surrounding natural teeth. In addition, by having implants, patients can reduce the chance of further bone loss, which can ultimately cause the loss of support for facial features and contours, which further ages the face. Implant dentistry provides a means of instilling confidence every time you smile, chew, or speak. With today's technological advancements and the care Dr. Donia provides, implants can look as natural as your own teeth, emerging from the gum with a natural color and profile that fits your smile. Imagine replacing a missing tooth so naturally that it virtually blends into your smile!

Will it work for me and, if so, what is the process?

The decision to proceed with implants is based on a variety of factors, such as health status and the amount of bone required to successfully complete the treatment. If you are eligible, Dr. Donia will determine where the implant can be placed by using x-rays. In some cases, you may be referred to an oral surgeon or specialist for the next step in treatment.

Your next visit will be for the placement of the implant into the bone. At this visit, the precise position is determined by Dr. Donia, the implant is placed, and the gums are sutured back over the implant. You will then go through a healing period which lasts approximately 4-6 months while the implant becomes osseo-integrated, almost "fixed" into the bone.

After the healing period, you will come back to Dr. Donia's office for placement of the abutment (the post on which your crown will "sit"), and impressions to make your final cosmetic crown, a virtual replica of a natural tooth.

If you are missing one or more of your natural teeth, contact our office today to schedule a consultation and see if you are a candidate for implant dentistry.
